Enclave 9 | Call & Response Workshops

Dec 11, 2016

14-15 January 2017
This 2-day course is aimed at artists who are interested in producing work using multiple loudspeakers to create immersive aural environments. We have recently purchased a Core Sound Tetramic Ambisonic microphone and a 3Dio binaural microphone so participants will be able to get some hands on experience with capturing their own 3D recordings.

Previous participants have included visual artists, sound designers and musicians.

You will learn techniques for multichannel diffusion, compositional strategies, field and close-microphone recording techniques, spatialisation and diffusion, psychoacoustics and installation practice.

The weekend will be led by C&R co-founder Matt Lewis. Matt teaches sound at LCC, RCA, CSM and University of Greenwich.

27-28 January 2017

A hands-on workshop aimed at acoustic musicians who improvise and use live electronics, those who play with other musicians using electronics, or musicians and programmers who improvise and work with acoustic players.

Participants will explore ways to use technology as an intimate and/or integrated partner for acoustic instruments, designing hybrid or purely electronic instruments and ways in which to engage and integrate performers bodies as real-time creative forces. The focus will be on improvising skills as well as developing approaches to using live electronics.

Software explored will include Abelton Live and Max/MSP.

No previous experience of coding or use of programming environments is necessary.

The course will include a public performance by participants as part of Last Fridays at our space in Deptford Course will be led by Led by Dr Emmanuel Spinelli. He has been involved in electro-acoustic composition, live electronics and free improvisation since 1998. His work has been presented around Europe, the US and Canada, and Footsteps in the Wind, a soundscape study of Krakow and Auschwitz, won the C.C.P. and the George Blunden travel awards. Spinelli completed a PhD in Sonic Arts at Goldsmiths in 2015.
