CURATORIAL TIMESHARE (London) present The 300,000kph non dental amalgam, a solo exhibition by London based artist David Martin, invited by Toby Huddlestone.
For this one evening, one day exhibition Martin is aware that his exhibition will be a moment of punctuation within the Curatorial Timeshares programme. The title alludes to this moment of ‘filling a gap’ both physically and ontologically, whilst also referencing Martins long standing interest in light. A series of automatic drawings will be displayed alongside some previous film work and new sculpture, indicating the different facets of Martin’s practice, and amalgamating them within the exhibition context.
Light, boundaries, resistance and formal aesthetic relationships are areas often explored by Martin through his sculptural and installation work. Often, these are ‘invisible’ boundaries that reference pre-conditioned (and also seem to predict) visitor behaviour, such as in the new work Lines you can’t cross, 2013. Martin also brings attention to the perceived peripheral elements of exhibition make-up, such as plinths, frames and the labelling of artwork, in an attempt to locate these as important objects towards some kind of horizontal hierarchical playing field.
